Grid-following

Grid-following describes inverter control that uses an existing AC voltage or grid signal as the reference for its output. In solar PV and battery contexts it usually means the inverter operates in parallel with the grid, following the grid's voltage and frequency while injecting controlled current rather than setting the voltage and frequency reference itself. The term helps distinguish normal grid-connected operation from grid-forming, EPS, backup or island-mode capability.
