Grid-forming
Grid-forming describes inverter control that can establish and regulate an AC voltage and frequency reference rather than only following an existing grid waveform.
Grid-forming describes inverter or converter control that can establish an AC voltage and frequency reference for another device or part of the network to follow. In home energy contexts the term may appear in inverter, battery and off-grid documents where a battery inverter forms a stand-alone AC supply for selected loads, or in wider GB electricity-system material about inverters that support grid stability.
