Home energy management system

Home energy management system, often shortened to HEMS, means software, hardware or a combined control platform that monitors and coordinates energy devices in a home. In a connected home energy system it may read solar generation, battery state of charge, electricity use, EV charging, heat pump demand, tariff periods or export limits, then adjust compatible devices through an app, hub, inverter platform or cloud service. The term does not guarantee one standard feature set: some products only show monitoring and schedules, while others can automate battery charging, solar self-consumption, flexible-load timing or third-party load-control services. The system specification should identify which devices the HEMS can monitor and control, its behaviour if the internet or supplier integration fails, and any warranty, tariff or export constraints.
