Import capacity

Import capacity is the permitted or agreed maximum rate at which electricity can flow from the distribution network into a property or installation, usually stated in amps, kVA or kW depending on the document. In home energy paperwork it can appear around DNO applications, connection offers, EV chargepoints, heat pumps, battery grid charging, G100 customer limitation schemes, inverter settings and handover packs. It is different from maximum demand, annual imported kWh, a main-fuse rating, a tariff, export capacity and the output rating of one device. A property may have equipment that could draw more than its agreed import capacity, in which case load management or an import limitation scheme may be used where the DNO and equipment documents allow it.
