Import limit

An import limit is the cap applied to electricity imported from the distribution network, usually at a property connection, customer limitation scheme or device-control setting. It is normally read in amps, kVA or kW and can appear in DNO connection paperwork, G100 customer limitation schemes, EV chargepoint or heat-pump load checks, battery grid-charging controls, inverter settings and handover packs. The limit is related to import capacity, but it is not the same as annual imported kWh, maximum demand, a main-fuse rating, export capacity, a tariff or the output rating of one device. Where equipment could draw more than the connection can support, an import limit or load-limiting device may be used only within the arrangement approved or documented for that installation.
