IP rating
Also known as Ingress protection rating, IP code
An IP rating is an enclosure code that states protection against solid objects such as dust and against water ingress.
An IP rating is an ingress protection code used for electrical enclosures. The first numeral describes protection against access to hazardous parts and solid objects such as dust, while the second numeral describes protection against water. In home energy documents it may appear on EV charger data sheets, solar or battery inverter data sheets and enclosure labels as a protection degree, ingress protection rating or protection class. It describes the tested enclosure rating, not whether the product is correctly sited, cable entries are sealed, ventilation and temperature limits are met or the whole installation is suitable for its exposure.
