Load profile
Also known as electricity load profile, demand profile, usage profile
A load profile is a demand-over-time view used to understand when a home imports electricity, runs large loads or has flexible demand.
A load profile shows how electrical demand changes over time. For a home, it may come from half-hourly smart-meter data, an in-home display, supplier or energy app graphs, EV charging records, inverter or battery monitoring, heat-pump monitoring or a home energy-management report. It helps explain when a property imports electricity, uses solar generation, charges a battery, runs a heat pump or charges an EV. The pattern matters because loads that happen at the same time can raise peak demand, while some flexible loads can be shifted to off-peak periods or times of abundant renewable electricity where the equipment, tariff, comfort needs and network limits allow. A load profile is not annual kWh use, maximum demand, a tariff price, import capacity, export capacity, a formal load survey or DNO approval.
