Main fuse

Also known as Cut-out fuse, Service fuse

Main-fuse wording refers to the incoming supply fuse or cut-out fuse, not proof that the home has spare electrical capacity for new equipment.

The main fuse, often called the cut-out fuse or service fuse, is the fuse in the incoming electricity supply equipment, usually close to the meter. It sits before the consumer unit and may be recorded or checked when the property supply is assessed for solar, battery storage, EV charging, heat-pump equipment or other high-demand loads. The main fuse is separate from the fuses or circuit breakers inside a consumer unit.
