Maximum demand

Maximum demand is the highest electrical load that a property, circuit or installation is expected to place on the supply at one time. In home energy paperwork it often appears as MD, and it is used when assessing whether an existing supply can support extra load such as an EV chargepoint or heat pump alongside existing equipment, battery storage, solar PV generation and other large loads. The ENA EVCP and heat pump connection form says a load survey is required to calculate Maximum Demand, including the existing Maximum Demand of the whole premises, the new equipment and any import or load-limiting devices. Maximum demand is not the same as annual electricity use, a tariff price, a battery capacity or the maximum output of one appliance.
