MCS 020

MCS 020 is the MCS sound-calculation standard used for air source heat pump permitted development checks. The current air source heat pump document is MCS 020 a), which uses manufacturer A-weighted sound power data, distance, reflecting surfaces and barrier corrections to calculate sound pressure at neighbouring assessment positions and compare it with the 37 dB LAeq,5mins limit. It is not planning permission, an MCS certificate, a product approval, a noise guarantee or proof that every other permitted development condition has been met.
