Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) is a whole-dwelling ventilation system that supplies fresh air, extracts stale or humid air and transfers some heat from outgoing air into incoming air through a heat exchanger. It is a ventilation system, not the same as a heat pump, air-conditioning system, extractor fan, positive input ventilation unit, airtightness test, planning permission, Building Regulations completion certificate, DNO approval, MCS certification or guarantee that a property will be warm, healthy, compliant or cheaper to run.
