Mismatch loss

Mismatch loss is solar PV output lost when modules, strings or array sections connected together cannot all operate at their own maximum power point because their electrical conditions differ.

Mismatch loss is the reduction in DC output that happens when connected PV modules, cells or strings have different current-voltage behaviour from shading, soiling, temperature, manufacturing tolerance, ageing or different orientations. In a series string, modules share the same current; in parallel, strings share a voltage, so the combined array may operate below the sum of the individual module maximum-power points.
