Mode 2 charging

Mode 2 charging is EV charging where the vehicle connects to a socket outlet through a portable cable assembly that includes in-cable control and protection, often described as an IC-CPD. In home material it can describe a portable charging lead used with a suitable 13 A mains socket rather than a fixed wallbox. The term describes the charging mode and cable arrangement, not proof that the socket, circuit, extension lead, weather exposure, charge rate or vehicle setup is suitable. Mode 2 charging should not be treated as the same as Mode 3 charging through a dedicated EV chargepoint, and it does not by itself provide solar charging, dynamic load balancing, smart-tariff scheduling or faster charging.
