Mode 3 charging
Mode 3 charging is EV charging through a dedicated AC chargepoint or EV supply equipment, usually using a chargepoint socket or tethered cable rather than a portable socket lead.
Mode 3 charging is EV charging through a dedicated AC chargepoint or EV supply equipment connected to the fixed electrical installation. It is the charging mode used by normal home wallboxes and many destination chargepoints, with the vehicle connected through a chargepoint socket or tethered cable rather than a Mode 2 portable lead plugged into a general socket. Mode 3 describes the charging arrangement and EVSE boundary, not a fixed charging speed, smart-tariff feature, solar-divert feature, dynamic load balancing, bidirectional charging, circuit suitability or installer approval.
