OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol)

Also known as Open Charge Point Protocol, OCPP

OCPP communication between EV charge points and charge-point management systems.

OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is an open communication protocol used between EV charging stations and charging management systems. It matters when a charger needs to connect to a charge-point management platform, because the protocol can reduce dependence on one proprietary back-office system when the charger, platform and OCPP version support the same functions. In domestic systems, the acronym may appear on a charger datasheet, installer portal or shared-parking management platform rather than in everyday charging controls. OCPP compatibility is not the same as confirmation that a charger will work with a particular smart tariff, solar-divert feature or vehicle integration; those depend on the charger, software platform and service being used.
