An open-loop GSHP (ground source heat pump) is a heat pump arrangement that abstracts groundwater, uses it as a heat source or heat sink and returns it to ground or surface water.
An open-loop GSHP (ground source heat pump) is a ground source heat pump arrangement that pumps groundwater from beneath the ground, uses the water as a heat source or heat sink, then reintroduces it to ground or surface water. GOV.UK Environment Agency guidance for England says an open-loop ground source or surface water source system may need groundwater investigation consent, an abstraction licence when taking more than 20 cubic metres per day and an environmental permit or registered exemption for discharge. The label describes the water-source arrangement, not proof of permission, efficiency, maintenance burden, MCS certification, Boiler Upgrade Scheme eligibility or suitability for a property.
