Oversizing

Oversizing is sizing one part of a solar PV design above a chosen reference value, such as fitting a PV array with a higher rated DC output than the inverter's AC output rating.

Oversizing is a relative sizing choice in a solar PV design, not a separate product rating. The term is often used when the PV array's rated DC output is higher than the inverter's AC output capacity, or when a design includes more generation capacity than another part of the system can use at every moment. It can be normal where the equipment and design limits allow it, but it must be read with the module kWp, inverter input voltage and current limits, MPPT limits, AC output rating, export limits, temperature behaviour, manufacturer instructions and MCS records.
