Randomised delay

Randomised delay is the smart chargepoint function that waits for a random period before electricity starts flowing to an EV, or before the chargepoint increases or decreases the charging rate. Under the Smart Charge Points Regulations, a covered private chargepoint must normally operate at each relevant time with a random delay of up to 10 minutes, and must be capable of operating with a random delay of up to 30 minutes. The owner must be able to cancel the normal delay at that relevant time, and the regulation says the delay does not apply where the owner or end-user has overridden it, an equivalent random delay has already been applied or the chargepoint is providing demand side response services. In practical charger material, this can explain a short pause after plugging in, after a schedule starts or after a command that would change charging power. It is separate from default off-peak charging, the household's tariff, the vehicle timer, solar divert charging and supplier smart charging.
