Rapid charging

Rapid charging is high-power EV charging used to add energy much faster than a normal home AC charger, usually at a public or destination chargepoint. UK public charging statistics now separate 50 kW to less than 150 kW as rapid and 150 kW and above as ultra-rapid, while the GB smart chargepoint regulations define a rapid charge point as one able to transfer electricity at not less than 50 kW. The label is a charger power category, not a guaranteed charging time. The car, connector, battery state of charge, battery temperature, charge curve, cable and site conditions can all limit the power used during a session.
