RCBO / Residual current breaker with overcurrent protection

Combined residual-current, overload and short-circuit protection for one circuit.

RCBO means residual current breaker with overcurrent protection, a protective device that combines the residual-current role of an RCD with the overload and short-circuit protection of an MCB. In a home consumer unit or distribution board, an RCBO can disconnect one circuit if it detects an earth-fault leakage current, overload or short circuit. That combined protection matters where a dedicated circuit for equipment such as a solar inverter, battery inverter, EV charge point or heat-pump supply needs both kinds of protection without sharing one RCD across several circuits. If an RCBO trips repeatedly, the circuit and connected equipment need checking before it is reset again.
