RFID card

An RFID card is a physical charging card that uses a radio signal to identify an EV driver, account or permission when it is held near a compatible chargepoint reader. In public charging, it can be the card used by a roaming or network account to authorise a session before charging starts. The Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 define an RFID card as a card with RFID functionality that allows a person to charge an EV, but is not a payment card. That distinction matters because an RFID card is not the same thing as contactless bank-card payment, a charger app, Plug and Charge, public charging roaming itself or proof that a chargepoint will be available, compatible or priced in a particular way.
