Short-circuit current is the current that flows when a short circuit is present, and in solar PV documents it often appears as the Isc rating for a module or string under stated test conditions.

Short-circuit current is the current that flows through a short circuit, or the rated current a solar PV module or string can produce when its output terminals are at zero voltage under stated test conditions. In home solar documents, it often appears as Isc in module datasheets, string calculations, PV array test reports, inverter input data and handover paperwork. The value helps compare module or string currents with inverter input limits, protective-device ratings and recorded PV tests, but it is not a normal operating current, a generation forecast, export permission, DNO acceptance, proof of inverter compatibility or evidence that a short-circuit fault is present.
