SMETS1

SMETS1 is the first-generation smart-meter standard for Great Britain, used for older smart gas or electricity meters installed before the later SMETS2 rollout.

SMETS1 means the first version of the Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications for smart gas or electricity meters in Great Britain. A SMETS1 meter can record energy use and support automatic readings, but some first-generation meters originally used supplier-specific communication systems and could lose smart functionality after a supplier switch. The label is useful when checking smart-meter mode, Data Communications Company (DCC) migration, automatic readings, smart-tariff data or export-meter requirements, but it is not itself a tariff, meter reading, export MPAN, SEG acceptance, DNO approval, meter-accuracy verdict or proof that a solar, battery, EV charger or heat-pump setup is compatible with a supplier service.
