Solar divert charging

Solar divert charging is EV charging that tries to use surplus on-site solar PV generation by changing, pausing or supplementing the charge session according to available generation or site import and export data.

Solar divert charging is an EV charging mode or control function that directs surplus on-site solar PV generation into an EV charging session instead of exporting that electricity immediately. A compatible charger, app, meter or energy-management device monitors available generation or site import and export and changes the EV charge rate, pauses charging or blends grid electricity depending on the selected mode and product limits. The term does not mean that every EV charger can use solar surplus, that the car will charge only from solar in all conditions or that solar divert proves tariff compatibility, export eligibility, dynamic load balancing, battery priority or electrical suitability.
