Specific yield

Specific yield is the electricity generated by a solar PV system divided by its installed kWp (kilowatt peak) rating over the same period. It is usually shown as kWh/kWp, meaning kilowatt hours per kilowatt peak, so a small PV system and a large PV system can be compared against their own rated size. In home energy documents it may appear in MCS performance estimates, PVGIS (PV Geographical Information System) outputs, Global Solar Atlas results, design software, monitoring exports and handover packs. The value depends on the period, location, irradiance, orientation, inclination, shading, temperature, system losses and whether the figure is predicted or measured. It is not the same as total solar yield, kWp, irradiance, self-consumption, export readings, DNO acceptance, SEG eligibility, a savings forecast, a performance guarantee or proof of installation quality.
