Standing charge
A standing charge is the fixed daily charge on an energy tariff, paid for each day of supply as well as any unit-rate charges for energy used.
Standing charge is the fixed daily charge for a gas or electricity supply, usually shown in pence per day on an energy bill, supplier app, tariff table or contract terms. It is paid even on days when no energy is used and sits beside unit rates rather than inside them. The amount can vary by region, payment method, fuel type, meter type, supplier and tariff. It is separate from an import rate, export rate, fixed direct-debit payment, total bill, meter reading, Data Communications Company (DCC) smart-meter data route, export MPAN, SEG eligibility, DNO approval and device-control setting.
