String layout

String layout is the plan for how solar PV modules are divided into one or more series strings and connected to inverter or MPPT inputs.

String layout is the solar PV design record showing which modules are connected together as each string and which inverter or MPPT input each string feeds. It links the physical module layout to the DC electrical design because string length, shading, orientation, module current and voltage, inverter input limits and test records are all read by string. The term is not the same as the roof layout, one PV string, the whole PV array, inverter selection, annual yield, export capacity, DNO acceptance, planning permission, roof suitability, structural suitability, warranty entitlement or proof that the system is correctly designed.
