Thermal store

A thermal store is an insulated vessel, usually a large water cylinder, that stores heat produced by a renewable or conventional heating source until the heating system needs it. Energy Saving Trust describes thermal stores as vessels used to store excess heat from a domestic renewable heating system, and notes that purpose-built stores can accept inputs from several technologies when designed for them. In home energy paperwork the term may sit near buffer tanks, accumulators, heat exchangers, domestic hot water, biomass, solar thermal and heat pump schematics, but it is not the same as a domestic hot water cylinder, buffer tank, volumiser, low-loss header, heat-loss calculation, MCS certificate, warranty approval or proof that the heating design is suitable.
