Three-phase charging

Three-phase charging is AC EV charging that uses a three-phase electrical supply rather than one phase. In UK charger specifications it often describes a 400 V AC arrangement, commonly associated with 22 kW workplace or home chargepoints where the property supply, charger configuration and vehicle onboard charger all support it. The phase label describes how the chargepoint is supplied electrically, not a guaranteed charging speed, DC rapid charger, smart-tariff feature or installation approval. Actual charging can still be limited by the vehicle, chargepoint settings, dynamic load balancing, supply capacity, smart schedules, solar controls, cable ratings and temperature controls.
