Three-pin charging

Three-pin charging is EV charging from a standard UK 13 A three-pin mains socket using a portable charging lead with in-cable control and protection. It overlaps with Mode 2 charging and with the informal phrase granny charging, but the term describes the socket-based charging arrangement rather than the cable by itself. It is usually much slower than a dedicated wallbox and should be read alongside socket condition, circuit loading, cable instructions, weather exposure and extension-lead guidance.
