Type A RCD

A Type A RCD is a residual current device type intended to operate with AC residual current and pulsating DC residual current.

A Type A RCD is a residual current device classification for AC residual current and pulsating DC residual current. BEAMA describes Type A as tripping for alternating sinusoidal residual current and residual pulsating DC, suddenly applied or smoothly increasing. Its 6 mA smooth-DC limit matters in EV charging and other electronic-equipment contexts because higher DC residual current can impair a Type A RCD.
