Untethered charger
An untethered charger is an EV chargepoint without a fixed charging cable, so the driver connects the vehicle with a separate compatible cable plugged into the charger socket.
An untethered charger is an EV chargepoint that does not have a charging cable fixed to the unit. In UK AC chargepoint specifications, the socket-outlet arrangement sits alongside tethered-cable equipment as one permitted physical connection arrangement. Where those specifications require AC charging equipment socket outlets, they specify BS EN 62196 Type 2.
