Vehicle-grid integration

VGI (vehicle-grid integration) describes the coordination of EV charging, chargepoints and electricity networks so charging demand and, where supported, vehicle-battery export can be managed with grid conditions.
VGI (vehicle-grid integration) describes the coordination of EV charging, chargepoints, vehicle batteries, software services and electricity networks so charging demand and, where supported, vehicle-battery export can be managed alongside grid conditions. In UK material it overlaps with smart charging, demand side response and V2X (Vehicle-to-X) energy, but it is a wider integration label rather than a single charger feature, connector, tariff or protocol. It can include one-way managed charging, charge-by-time scheduling, public or fleet charging forecasts, distribution network planning and bidirectional arrangements such as V2G (vehicle-to-grid). The term does not mean a household charger supports bidirectional export, that every EV can provide grid services, that DNO approval or export metering is in place, or that a tariff, app or charger management system will optimise every charging session.
