Vehicle-to-home

Vehicle-to-home, often shortened to V2H, is a form of bidirectional EV charging where a compatible EV battery can discharge through a suitable chargepoint or control arrangement for use by the home. It sits under the wider V2X umbrella, but it is narrower than vehicle-to-grid because the destination is the home rather than the electricity network, and narrower than vehicle-to-load because it is intended to feed a home installation rather than a portable socket or appliance. V2H needs a compatible EV, bidirectional chargepoint, electrical installation, communication and control setup, and any required connection, metering, tariff, warranty and backup arrangements. The term does not mean every EV can power a home, that ordinary smart charging is bidirectional, that backup power is included automatically or that tariff savings, export eligibility or battery-warranty cover are guaranteed.
