Ventilation

Ventilation is the planned movement of air through a room, building space or equipment location to remove stale air, moisture, pollutants or heat.

Ventilation is the planned movement of air through a room, building space or equipment location. In home energy work it can mean building ventilation under Approved Document F, airflow around mechanical ventilation plant or equipment ventilation required by a battery, inverter, EV chargepoint or heat pump manual. It matters because ventilation affects moisture, indoor pollutants, equipment temperature and whether grilles, ducts, vents or air paths can be blocked. The term does not set one universal air-change rate or clearance. The relevant requirement comes from the building regulations, the product manual, the design document or the site assessment.
