Whole-home backup is a backup arrangement intended to make the whole property the backed-up part of the installation during a grid outage, rather than only selected essential loads.

Whole-home backup is a backup arrangement in which the backed-up part of the installation is intended to be the whole property rather than only selected essential loads or a dedicated EPS consumer unit. Battery manufacturers, installers and product pages may also call this whole-property backup, whole house backup or full property backup. It still needs suitable changeover or gateway equipment, grid isolation, earthing, protection and commissioning checks, and the usable supply is limited by inverter output, battery state of charge, solar availability and the loads that are on at the time. The term should not be read as a guarantee that every appliance can run at once, that power transfer will be uninterrupted or that the battery will cover a fixed outage runtime.
