Workmanship warranty

A workmanship warranty is a written guarantee or warranty for faults that arise because installation work or workmanship was not carried out properly. In home energy paperwork it may appear in contracts, handover packs, MCS documents, Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) documents, insurance-backed guarantee policies, grant paperwork and support records for PV, battery storage, EV charging or heat pump work. MCS and RECC sources use a minimum two-year workmanship guarantee for relevant domestic renewable installations and require it to be transferable, with insurance-backed protection so the guarantee can be honoured if the installer ceases to trade. A workmanship warranty is not the same as a product warranty, output guarantee, extended warranty, MCS certificate, TrustMark registration, Competent Person Scheme record, Building Regulations Compliance Certificate, DNO approval, planning permission, grant approval, SEG registration or proof that a later claim will be accepted.
