The Aerona 290 4kW is the smallest of Grant’s five Aerona 290 air source heat pumps. Its product code is HPR2904. It is a single-phase, air-to-water monobloc, so the refrigerant circuit remains within the outdoor unit while water connects it to the home’s heating system.

Output and seasonal performance

The 4 kW name follows the output at -5°C outdoor air and 55°C flow. The specification table gives the separate output at 7°C outdoor air and 35°C flow. These conditions matter because heat-pump output and efficiency change with outdoor temperature and the water temperature being produced.

HPR2904 is registered in the MCS Product Directory as Aerona HPR2904 under certificate MCS HP0265/01. Its SCOP (seasonal coefficient of performance) curve runs from 35°C to 55°C flow; the specification table gives the two endpoints.

Minimum modulation output is 1.25 kW. This matters when the building needs less heat than the unit’s named output because it affects how far the compressor can reduce its delivery before cycling.

Installation context

The unit uses R290, or propane, in a sealed refrigerant circuit. Grant’s installation instructions set the siting, clearance, water-volume and electrical requirements that apply to this refrigerant and this particular unit. The Aerona Smart Controller is required for the Aerona 290 range.

Grant’s April 2026 manual distinguishes the smaller casing body from the overall external dimensions shown in its drawing. The specification table gives both. Grant’s live range page differs slightly from the manual drawing, so clearance and base design should follow the current installation document supplied for the unit.

Availability and guarantee

HPR2904 appears on Grant’s current UK range page and its MCS record is current at 22 July 2026. The manual provides a one-year manufacturer guarantee, extended to two years when the product is registered within 30 days and serviced at 12 months. Grant separately advertises a seven-year offer for eligible installations by G1 installers, subject to its terms.
