Aerona 290 is Grant’s five-model range of R290 air source heat pumps for the UK market. All five are single-phase, air-to-water monoblocs. The range comprises HPR2904, HPR29065, HPR2909, HPR29012 and HPR290155, named 4, 6.5, 9, 12 and 15.5 kW.
How the range is rated
Grant bases the model names on heating capacity at -5°C outdoor air and 55°C water flow. Its April 2026 installation manual also provides capacity and coefficient of performance at 7°C outdoor with 35°C and 55°C flow. This produces several valid output figures for each unit, each attached to a different test point.
The specification table follows the five models in ascending order. Each model has its own MCS record, from MCS HP0265/01 for HPR2904 to MCS HP0265/05 for HPR290155. These records publish SCOP (seasonal coefficient of performance) values across flow temperatures from 35°C to 55°C.
Table 2-1 in Grant’s April 2026 manual gives minimum outputs of 1.25, 2.40, 2.61, 3.20 and 4.63 kW. A separate water-volume table in the same manual uses 2.51 kW for HPR2909, rather than 2.61 kW. Grant does not reconcile the two values.
Shared design
The range uses R290, or propane, with a stated global warming potential of 3. The refrigerant circuit, compressor, water-side heat exchanger and circulating pump are inside the outdoor unit. Each installation uses the Aerona Smart Controller and must follow Grant’s requirements for location, clearances, condensate, electrical protection and available system-water volume.
The five models do not share every physical or electrical requirement. They span three casing arrangements, different running currents and different R290 charge quantities. The product code identifies the applicable requirements; the family name does not.
Documents and availability
Grant’s April 2026 installation manual distinguishes casing-body dimensions from the larger overall dimensions in its drawings. The short datasheet and live product page also differ slightly from some manual dimensions and acoustic values. A figure is only meaningful with its measurement basis and document date, particularly when planning clearances or comparing sound data.
All five UK models appear on Grant’s live range page and have current MCS records at 22 July 2026. Grant publishes a one-year manufacturer guarantee with a route to two years through registration and servicing. Its separate seven-year offer depends on an eligible G1 installer and the relevant terms.
