The Aerona 290 9kW is the HPR2909 model in Grant’s R290 heat-pump range. It is an inverter-driven, single-phase monobloc intended to supply water for space heating and a compatible hot-water system.

Output at two test points

The 9 kW name corresponds to 9.21 kW heating capacity at -5°C outdoor air and 55°C flow. Capacity is 9.38 kW at 7°C outdoor air and 35°C flow. These are standard test points for the same machine, not separate operating modes or selectable power limits.

The MCS Product Directory identifies it as Aerona HPR2909 under MCS HP0265/03. Its current record includes the seasonal performance curve from 35°C to 55°C flow. The table records the two endpoints and keeps them attached to their respective flow temperatures.

The current manual contains two minimum-modulation figures. Technical Table 2-1 gives 2.61 kW and a 28.34% turn-down, while the system-volume Table 3-6 uses 2.51 kW to calculate a 12.55-litre minimum and 50.2-litre recommended volume. Grant does not reconcile the two values.

System context

HPR2909 uses the same casing size as the 6.5 kW model in the April 2026 instructions, but it has different current, refrigerant-charge, water-volume and acoustic figures. Those model-specific requirements are why the installation design needs the exact product code.

The heat pump is paired with the Aerona Smart Controller. Its R290 circuit is sealed within the outdoor monobloc. Grant’s installation manual governs the safety clearances and hydraulic design, including the volume of water that must remain available to the unit.

Availability and guarantee

The model remains on Grant’s UK range page and its MCS certificate is current at 22 July 2026. Grant’s manual sets out a one-year guarantee and the registration and servicing conditions for two years. A separate seven-year term may be available when an eligible G1 installer completes the installation, subject to the applicable conditions.
