Humax MX7 is a single-phase 7.4 kW home EV chargepoint. It is sold as a socketed Type 2 unit or with a fixed 5 m or 7.5 m Type 2 cable.

Vehicle communication is not bidirectional charging

An integrated power-line communication module supports the ISO 15118 vehicle communication standard. Humax uses it to identify a registered vehicle when it is plugged in, providing a hardware-based access-control option alongside the app and RFID cards.

Humax also describes this hardware as ready for vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-home use. Neither function is commercially supported on the MX7 at 22 July 2026. The company states that software and certification work is still in progress. Future operation would also depend on the vehicle, supporting energy services, the network approval position and any required certified equipment.

App, solar and load control

The Humax Charge app can schedule sessions, start and stop charging, manage access and show charging history. OCPP 1.6J provides the protocol for a compatible charging service. Standard communications are Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth, with 4G available as an option.

Dynamic load balancing requires a current transformer or compatible energy meter to measure household demand. Automatic solar charging also needs an energy-monitoring device and directs measured surplus to the vehicle after household demand. These are controlled functions rather than a direct electrical connection between the solar array and the car.

The charger has built-in 6 mA DC residual-current detection and PEN (protective earth and neutral) fault protection. Humax specifies an external Type A residual-current protective device as part of the installed circuit.

Variant details and published IP ratings

The current data sheet rates the tethered unit IP65 and the socketed version IP54. A table on Humax’s product page reverses those two ratings. The documentation supplied with the exact variant must therefore settle its ingress rating.

The same data sheet gives the tethered enclosure as 335 by 210 by 133 mm and the socketed enclosure as 335 by 210 by 144 mm. Cable choice changes the tethered unit’s weight. Humax states a five-year warranty, subject to its installation and warranty conditions.

The government’s eligible chargepoint list dated 15 June 2026 includes HS71007 and HS71007U for residential and commercial schemes. Scheme, applicant and installation requirements still apply.
