Kensa Compact

Kensa Compact was a family of indoor ground source heat pumps used in homes, communal areas and larger domestic projects. It is no longer in Kensa’s current product range. Installed examples remain relevant for service, replacement and ground-array assessment.

Variants in the field

Kensa used Compact and Twin Compact names across more than one output. Its published case studies include 3.5, 4.3 and 6.2 kW Compact units in a 2014 social-housing project, a 12 kW Single Compact in a 2016 sheltered-housing project and a 20 kW Twin Compact in a large new-build home.

Those examples show the breadth of the historic range, but they are not an exhaustive specification schedule. A rounded output name does not establish the unit’s refrigerant, electrical supply, starting current or hydraulic requirements.

Replacement context

Kensa’s East London case study explicitly calls Evo the newer replacement model for the 20 kW Twin Compact used on that project. This does not make every Evo a direct drop-in replacement. Heat loss, ground-array capacity, source flow, emitter design, electrical supply, cylinder and control integration all need checking.

The ground infrastructure may have a much longer life than the heat pump, but its original design duty and condition still matter. Reusing boreholes or horizontal collectors requires the available extraction and annual energy balance to be established rather than inferred from the old heat-pump label.

Documents and support

Kensa’s current warranty announcement applies to heat pumps sold after 1 February 2026, not to historic Compact installations. Cover for an installed unit depends on its original registration and terms.

The unit type plate and serial number should be used when requesting manuals or parts from Kensa. Twin and Single Compact documents, and documents from different production periods, should not be mixed.
