Ecodan R290 is Mitsubishi Electric’s current propane-refrigerant monobloc range. The refrigerant circuit is contained in the outdoor unit, with water and electrical connections continuing to the indoor heating system.
Codes, capacities and supply
The current UK page lists 5, 6, 8.5, 10 and 12 kW capacity classes. Their base codes are PUZ-WZ50VAA, PUZ-WZ60VAA, PUZ-WZ85V/YAA, PUZ-WZ100V/YAA and PUZ-WZ120V/YAA. V is used for single-phase equipment and Y for three-phase forms. A -BS suffix identifies coastal protection rather than a different heating capacity.
Mitsubishi Electric states operation down to -25°C ambient and water temperatures up to 75°C. These are operating-envelope limits, not a claim that every design should use 75°C or that output and efficiency remain unchanged across the envelope. The exact technical schedule should be used at the project’s design outdoor temperature and design flow temperature.
R290 affects siting
R290 is a flammable refrigerant, so the outdoor-unit installation manual defines a protection zone and other siting requirements. Mitsubishi Electric revised its guidance in January 2026 after a technical review. Current installation work needs the latest manual rather than a protection-zone diagram retained from an earlier revision.
The indoor side is also code-specific. Mitsubishi Electric lists FTC7 packaged and pre-plumbed cylinders, but cylinder capacity and arrangement are separate from the outdoor-unit capacity.
Certification and warranty
Current MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) records included the principal PUZ-WZ models on 23 July 2026. The directory also retained a current PUZ-WZ80 record that was not in Mitsubishi Electric’s five-size public range on that date. That record should not be used to turn 8 kW into a current advertised size without checking the precise product and supply position.
The residential terms in force on 23 July 2026 gave sub-20 kW Ecodan units three, five or seven years according to installer status. Homeowner registration within 30 days and the remaining installation and servicing conditions apply.
