Tesla Gateway 3 controls the grid connection, outage detection and energy metering in some Powerwall 3 systems. Model 1841000-x1-y is a North American unit for 120/240 V AC split-phase service at 60 Hz, not a UK product.

UK status

UK Powerwall 3 systems operate at 230 V single-phase and 50 Hz, with Backup Gateway 2 as the supported islanding device. The UK example diagrams use the same gateway. Tesla’s UK documentation contained no Gateway 3 specification or 230 V/50 Hz variant at 23 July 2026.

Gateway 3 is therefore recorded as UK availability unconfirmed. Its appearance in an international product feed, US manual or online discussion should not be treated as evidence that the North American unit can be specified for a British installation. A valid UK product record would require an exact part number, UK technical documentation and a compatible connection arrangement.

North American specification

The North American unit has a 200 A continuous-current rating, automatic backup transition and an integrated panelboard. It measures 660 by 411 by 149 mm, weighs 16.3 kg and uses a NEMA 3R enclosure rating for indoor or outdoor mounting. Those values identify that product but are not UK design values.

The unit provides energy measurements used by Powerwall for solar self-consumption, time-based control and backup. During an outage it disconnects the supported system from the grid before islanded operation. These are the same broad functions performed by an energy gateway, but electrical compatibility depends on the regional voltage, frequency, earthing and certification rather than the product name alone.

Distinction from Backup Gateway 2

Gateway 3 and Backup Gateway 2 are different enclosures with different regional specifications. For a UK Powerwall 3 system, the current regional datasheet specifies Backup Gateway 2. Imported references to Gateway 3 should not be merged with that UK product.
