The Giv-Bat 9.5 is a 9.5 kWh home storage battery module made by GivEnergy, a UK energy hardware brand. It is a low-voltage module rather than a self-contained system: it holds the cells and their management electronics and connects to a separate GivEnergy inverter that converts between the battery, the home and the grid.

Capacity, chemistry and power

The cells use LFP. Nominal capacity is 9.5 kWh and depth of discharge is 100%. Usable energy is not separately specified, so it is not assigned the same value as nominal capacity.

Charge and discharge are specified in amps. Because the module is inverter-agnostic within GivEnergy’s low-voltage range, the kilowatt output is set by the inverter it runs behind. A kilowatt output attached to this battery therefore describes the inverter.

Warranty, temperature and enclosure

The published warranty was twelve years with unlimited cycles and no stated MWh throughput limit. GivEnergy Ltd’s administrator has since stated that the company will honour no further hardware warranties.

The battery has separate temperature limits for charging, discharging and storage. Gen 3 operates from 0°C to 50°C while charging, −10°C to 50°C while discharging and −20°C to 50°C in storage. It is rated IP65 and IK10, can stand on the floor or mount to a wall and supports up to five units in parallel. The Gen 2 limits, dimensions and installation details differ.

Pairing and backup

The battery was sold for use with GivEnergy hybrid and AC-coupled inverters. Coupling and backup are properties of the paired inverter and complete system. Gen 2 uses RS485 and Modbus; Gen 3 lists RS485, USB and CAN interfaces with Modbus and CANbus protocols.

Gen 2 and Gen 3

The 9.5 kWh module has two distinct generations. Gen 2 used a September 2023 specification, while Gen 3 used an October 2024 specification and the catalogue code GIV-BAT-9.5-G3. The two differ in physical size, weight, current rating, communications and temperature limits. The structured specifications are the Gen 3 values. A name of Battery 9.5 or Giv-Bat 9.5 on its own does not identify the generation; GIV-BAT-9.5-G3 marks Gen 3.

Availability and manufacturer status

GivEnergy Ltd entered administration and ceased trading on 9 April 2026, so the Gen 3 module is recorded as withdrawn from new supply by that manufacturer. The specifications and generation identifiers remain useful for installed systems. As at 22 July 2026, GivEnergy Software Limited was not included in the administration and remained active, but its status does not restore the hardware warranty.
