Ecodan is Mitsubishi Electric’s system-level name for domestic air-to-water heat pumps. It can appear on an outdoor unit, cylinder, controller and warranty record, so Ecodan on its own does not identify one appliance or one set of performance figures.
The current family split
The current R290 range uses PUZ-WZ outdoor-unit codes and covers 5, 6, 8.5, 10 and 12 kW capacity classes. The R32 catalogue includes PUZ-WM standard and compact equipment plus PUZ-HWM Zubadan models, spanning 5 to 14 kW classes.
Mitsubishi Electric is moving from R32 to R290. It announced the phaseout in June 2025 and said in January 2026 that one year remained before R32 withdrawal. R32 pages and certification records were still live on 23 July 2026, so the range was not described as already withdrawn at this review.
An Ecodan system has several codes
The outdoor unit establishes the refrigerant family, capacity class, supply arrangement and operating data. The indoor package can be a hydrobox or a packaged or pre-plumbed cylinder. Current cylinder and control pages use FTC7, while FTC5 and FTC6 references may appear on older installed systems.
The product and handover records contain the complete outdoor code, indoor code, controller generation and cylinder code. Descriptions such as Ecodan 8.5 kW or Ecodan with FTC omit information needed to match manuals, spares and certification.
Certification and warranty
Exact current R290 and R32 outdoor-unit records were present in the MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) Product Directory on 23 July 2026. The directory record applies to the named product or combination, not every item using the Ecodan brand.
The warranty term also depends on the recorded installation route. Mitsubishi Electric’s current terms gave sub-20 kW Ecodan units three, five or seven years according to installer status. Registration within 30 days and the remaining conditions apply, while cylinders and ancillaries have a separate three-year schedule.
