MSZ-RZ is Mitsubishi Electric’s R290 Premium Plus wall-mounted family for fixed room heating and cooling. It is the current M Series wall range that combines R290 with an integrated refrigerant sensor, 3D i-see room sensing, Plasma Quad filtration and built-in MELCloud Home control.
Position in the M Series range
RZ is distinct from the R32 LN, AY/AP, EF and HR families. Its three indoor sizes share the same 998 mm-wide cabinet and have exact MUZ-RZ pair outdoor units. The optional B suffix identifies the black indoor finish.
The integrated refrigerant sensor provides early leak detection. R290 is flammable, so the complete system remains subject to the applicable charge and ventilation requirements for the selected equipment. The sensor is one part of that product safety arrangement.
The current sources conflict on capacity coverage. The wall-mounted index omits RZ50, while FAQ text labels both RZ25 and RZ35 as 5 kW. The later April 2026 PI schedule provides the three exact rows used below: 2.5, 3.5 and 5.0 kW nominal cooling.
Model codes and pairings
MSZ identifies an indoor unit and MUZ its matched single-split outdoor unit. RZ is the family, while 25, 35 and 50 identify the nominal cooling-capacity class. VU is the complete current scheduled revision segment and must remain in the code. MSZ-RZ35VUB, for example, is the black RZ indoor unit in the 3.5 kW nominal cooling class.
| Indoor unit | Nominal cooling / heating | Outdoor unit |
|---|---|---|
MSZ-RZ25VU(B) |
2.5 / 3.2 kW | MUZ-RZ25VU |
MSZ-RZ35VU(B) |
3.5 / 4.0 kW | MUZ-RZ35VU |
MSZ-RZ50VU(B) |
5.0 / 6.0 kW | MUZ-RZ50VU |
The RZ50 uses the larger outdoor cabinet and a 30 m maximum pipe run. RZ25 and RZ35 use the same smaller outdoor cabinet and a 20 m maximum pipe run.
Sensing, filtration and controls
The indoor unit includes 3D i-see room sensing and Circulator mode. Plasma Quad filtration is integrated into the indoor unit.
Wi-Fi is built in for MELCloud Home monitoring and control. The backlit handheld controller also provides local operation and scheduling.
