The Hybrid Inverter Gen 2 is GivEnergy’s second-generation hybrid inverter, a single unit that runs a solar array and a home battery together instead of leaving each to its own inverter. It was sold in two single-phase ratings, a 3.6 kW and a 5.0 kW. The two share the same PV input, battery stage, protection set and casing, and differ only on the AC output side, where the 5.0 delivers more power and current.

The 5.0 kW unit has no confirmed manufacturer catalogue SKU in the public specification. Identify it from its rating plate rather than inferring GIV-HY5.0-G2 from the smaller model’s code.
What the input and efficiency figures mean
The inverter has two independent MPPTs, each accepting one string. The maximum PV input is 7.5 kWp per string rather than a stated whole-unit total, so the two values must not be combined into an invented array limit.
Maximum efficiency is 97.6% and European weighted efficiency is 97%. They are different rating methods and should not be treated as interchangeable.
The battery it pairs with
The Gen 2 is a low-voltage hybrid. It pairs with GivEnergy’s low-voltage lithium-ion battery modules rather than a high-voltage stack, and the battery connects on the DC side through the inverter. The supported battery voltage range is 45 to 58 V.
Backup, mounting and grid connection
A backup terminal, an EPS output, keeps selected circuits running from solar and the battery when the grid is down. That is not whole-home backup, which needs additional isolation and changeover switching so the property can be separated from the grid and held within the inverter and battery limits. On the 5.0 kW model the backup terminal is rated to the same output the 3.6 kW model provides, so its backup capacity does not rise with its grid-tied rating.
The enclosure is IP65 and its operating range is -20°C to +60°C, with derating at 50°C. Monitoring uses built-in Wi-Fi or a wired network connection, without the separate communications dongle used by the first-generation unit. Approvals include G98 and G100. GivEnergy inverters fall outside the MCS Product Directory’s standalone product categories because MCS certifies the installed solar or battery system rather than the inverter alone.
Availability and manufacturer status
The Gen 2 was superseded by the Gen 3 range before GivEnergy Ltd entered administration and ceased trading on 9 April 2026. Its specifications remain relevant to installed units. The original warranty term was twelve years; the administrator has stated that GivEnergy Ltd will honour no further hardware warranties.
